Lettera covers the following major subject areas: luxury editions and books about the cultural and historical heritage of Bulgaria in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Bulgarian, fiction by famous Bulgarian and foreign writers, language learning systems, textbooks and supplementary materials and teaching aids, dictionaries, reference books, popular science series for young-adults, bi-lingual commentary editions of European literary classics, reference books in history, music and architecture, books for children.
Lettera has also developed a unique multimedia course Bulgarian for Foreigners in cooperation with a team of highly qualified international experts from seven European countries under the Socrates LINGUA-L2 programme of the EU. The course is unique in content and structure, using modern methodology that takes the learners from A1 to B2 level of language competence as per the CEF. The course contains in-depth socio-cultural information and attractive animation and video film and is suitable both for self-study and a group study with a teacher. Lettera has a reputation for providing high quality books both in terms of methodology and design. About 70% of the titles are approved by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science. It has sold licenses for foreign language learning systems and Bulgarian fiction to publishers from Hungary, Slovenia, Montenegro, Serbia, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany. The publishing house was awarded a Golden Disk by the BBC in 1992 for the high quality of production of the language system BBC 1, 2, 3. In 1999 it won the Plovdiv special award for the luxurious Old Plovdiv edition, the Hristo G. Danov national award of the Ministry of Culture for book design and awards of the Bulgarian Book Publishers Association for high quality of printing of the Old Plovdiv and The Tin Drum by Gunter Grass. At the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2004 it was awarded EEPG's Merit Award for the quality of the Russian language textbook Carousel.
Lettera is in close cooperation with publishers from Germany, UK, France, Slovenia, Italy, as well as with the Ministry of Education and Science and its regional inspectorates, the Ministry of Culture, major universities in Bulgaria (Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv) and abroad (University of Gent, Belgium, University of Westminster, Great Britain, University of Leipzig, Germany, Charles University of Prague, the Czech Republic, University of Aix-en-Provence, France), Goethe Institute - Sofia, Frankfurt Book Fair, Bulgarian State Tourism Agency, Alliance Francaise - Plovdiv, etc.
